Licensable activities and types of licences
Activities subject to licensing are activities that require a license or other authorization to perform.
For the purposes of this Act the following are licensable activities;
- the sale by retail of alcohol,
- the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a club to, or to the order of, a member of the club,
- the provision of regulated entertainment, and
- the provision of late night refreshment.
A premises License or Temporary Event Notice is mandotary to organize any activity that requires a license or to sell alcohol directly to a customer. Businesses that provide one or more of the licensable activities must obtain a premises license. Some of those:
- Night clubs,
- Alcoholic grocery stores (Off-licenses);
- supermarkets;
- restaurants;
- Hotels;
- Cinemas and theatres;
- Take-aways
- Burger vans
Engaging in an unauthorized activity is a serious offense that can result in an unlimited fine and/or 6 months in prison.
