Drugs and licenced premises
Unfortunately, the use of drugs and intoxicants has increased in recent years. Allowing drug use in licensed premises results in heavy penalties as well as closure of the premises and revokation of the premises license.
It is not very difficult to prevent drug use in licensed establishments. Maintaining high standards of service and regular inspections will deter drug users. Those who use and sell drugs mostly prefer places where the glasses are not collected and the service is sloppy.
Having a zero tolerance policy lets customers and staff know that action will be taken if illegal drug activity is detected. All those working in licensed premises must remain vigilant and take action to prevent illegal drug activity, as failure to do so could result in increased crime in and around the premises.
If any drug activity is suspected, contact the police immediately. For their own safety, staff should be warned not to approach alone, persons suspected of drug activity.
